On April 21, a large amount of what believed to be toxic drug capsules was found in a road-side ditch in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The strip lasted over 300 meters. If put aside the fact that these are toxic and made from waste leather scraps, some of the picture are kind of artsy…

Toxic drug capsules that are made of industrial gelatin extracted from waste leather scraps are the latest food scandal in China. The Chinese government has already arrested 9 and detained some 45 for the case.

The water was contaminated with colors from the capsules.

According to an article from Sina, all capsules have been cleaned up. An local official confirmed that there was no drug capsule manufactures in Zhengzhou, which makes it a mystery of how the capsules ended up in the ditch. However, a business card found in the river of capsules pointed to a factory in Zhejiang Province, China’s drug capsule manufacturing hub.

Though this appears terrible, the colors used in capsules made for human consumption contain nothing harmful to humans. Were these capsules for some other use not stated in the report?

These capsules were made of toxic gelatin from waste leather scraps, not edible gelatin, that is why they were dumped.
